CARTA

Chapter 14 draws inspiration from traditional Japanese Washi paper, reinterpreted through Massimo Osti Studio’s innovative approach. The paper-based raw material, derived from wood pulp, is transformed into yarns and woven with cotton fibres, creating a distinctive canvas structure. The garment dyeing process with an “Old” effect further enhances the fabric, enriching its texture and chromatic depth.

THE PROCESS
The art of Washi paper, between tradition and contemporary

Rooted in centuries of Japanese craftsmanship, Washi paper forms the starting point of this Chapter. Made from plant fibres extracted from tree bark, it is combined with neri, a natural binding agent traditionally used in Washi production, and works slowly in water. This process allows the fibres to bond naturally, resulting in a surface defined by strength, flexibility, and lightness. These qualities are translated into garments characterised by a smooth texture and nuanced colour depth, achieved through garment dyeing.
