LANA VULCANIZZATA

The application of vulcanisation to wool finds one of its most sophisticated expressions in this Chapter. A 100% extra-fine merino wool, with Jacquard construction, incorporates a rubberised yarn produced through polyurethane extrusion. During a subsequent vulcanisation process, heat and pressure bond the polyurethane to the fabric surface, creating monolithic reinforcements integrated directly into the garment structure.

Massimo Osti Studio’s experimental approach is rooted in the research conducted by Massimo Osti on materials and their potential for transformation. Throughout his career, he developed a wool fabric coated with vulcanised natural rubber, later succeeding in subjecting it to the garment dyeing process without altering the characteristics of the rubberised surface. This Chapter draws inspiration from that same principle of innovation, reinterpreting the dialogue between wool and polymer materials through a contemporary lens.
